A sampling of products:
After graduating with an engineering degree, Darryl Pike began to explore the connection between art and engineering. This exploration has fuelled his product development practice, beginning with wood carving and continuing in his pewter work. Darryl began carving in 1994 and his first design was a mahogany scroll picture frame that was published in the British publication WoodCarving. Darryl continued on and in 1996 opened Olive Garden Designs with a line of wooden hair barrettes made from domestic and exotic woods as well as other specialty materials. These barrettes are still an integral part of his product offering today.
In 1999 Olive Garden Designs added pewter products to its product line. Untilizing the carving skills aquired earlier in his work with wood, Darryl hand prototypes each of his pewter designs, now numbering over 150! Every step of the process receives careful attention, ensuring that only the highest quality products are produced. The latest addition to the pewter product line is the Salt Water Pewter series of bowls and platters. Part of the creation process involves playing with the natural oxidation of pewter to create iridescent colour patterns that vary from piece to piece with colours including bronze, gold, purple, blue and orange.
In 2013, Darryl acquired Delia Pewter. The Delia Pewter designs are now available through Olive Garden Designs / Salt Water Pewter.
Design, innovation, observation and attention to detail are hallmarks of Darryl's portfolio.
