"I love to work with my hands and with the materials. Every step of the process is satisfying to me. I make my own clay bodies and glazes too – that's important to me. If I am not in the studio making pots you will find me, come summer, in the garden growing my organic vegetables."
Every day that Craig Strang goes to his pottery workshop is a good day. "I talk to my clay and say thank you," quips the owner and operator of Meadow's Point Pottery. At one point in his professional life, Strang was a prospector and he brings his keen eye for minerals to his ceramics. He sources slip or liquid clay from a local riverbed to produce the rich earth tones his pottery is noted for. Strang throws all his pots; no moulds for him. He makes gently flaring mugs with generous handles that you can fit your whole hand into. The handles made from flattened braids of coiled clay are characteristic of Meadow's Point Pottery. His other signature item is a boat shaped vessel or "my punts and dories" that are suitable for display or serving food – the perfect complement to your cod au gratin!
